With the city expanding and increase of the number of motor vehicles, the urban transportation contradiction between supply and demand is increasingly prominent. Traffic congestion is growing to be a very important issue to be resolved worldwide, especially in China, because of the huge population and relatively backward transportation infrastructure. The fundamental purposes of transit priority strategy as well as key issues of transit priority signal control are as follows:preferential development of public transit, operating efficiency improvements of public transport, and decreased delay time of public transport at intersections.The research object of this thesis is the transit priority signal control in single intersection. The transit priority signal control algorithm regarding single-phase and multi-phase traffic flow is probed on the basis of active transit signal control method and research results at home and abroad. In the control research of single-phase transit signal priority, with the optimization goals of balancing the benefits of non-priority phase of general traffic, the control method of transit signal priority was put forward, which is under the design of single-loop phase and double-loop phase and on the basis of green time compensation; the whole control logic of transit signal priority is formulated under these two types of phase designs, as well as the included each module control logic. Besides, the change models of public transportation, social vehicles, and average person delay in the intersection are built under each priority strategy. Moreover, the feasibility and applicability of priority control method is verified and analyzed with real cases.In order to make the transit signal priority control method suitable for the complicated domestic public transport network, the multiphase transit priority signal control strategy is studied deeply in this thesis. The thesis analyzes the key issue and optimization goal of multiphase transit priority signal control. After the analysis of the insufficiency of FCFS(First Come First Service) order control strategy under multiphase transit priority application, an improved strategy is put forward as well as a comparison of the effects between these two strategies. Finally, the thesis introduces the decision tree method to resolve the priority problem of multiphase transit prior application. Besides, the improved FCFS control strategy and the decision tree order control strategy mentioned above are stated and verified with cases.
