Ultrasonic surface rolling processing (USRP) is put forward, in order to improve the general properties of surfaces on the gear and prolong the service life of the gears. The theory is a processing method through the dynamic load impact and plastic deformation of rolling. A testing device, which is fit for USRP on the gears,is designed and proved by the experiment. The texting device is consisted by digital ultrasonic power supply, USRP operator, pressure device and tools. The shape of tools on the device is projected by L, and the width is the same as the breadth of tooth. Line contact is an effective way on the improvement of the machining efficiency.Take gears of m3, z20as testing sample. Analysis methods, including XRD, surface roughness, SEM and involute detector and so on, are used to discuss the influence of processing parameters on mechanical properties of USRP surfaces. Orthogonal test is used to analyze the significance. In order to strength the surface of gears, the effect of parameters is discussed.The test results show that:the testing device can achieve the purpose to intensify surface of different kinds of gears. USRP is an available processing technology to improve the quality of the gear surface. After processing, the surface of the teeth has fine surface finish and surface lay which is made for reducing friction, and ameliorativing residual stress to enhance the mechanical property, as well as keeping the original shape of gears. All these are helpful to increase the service life of parts.USRP parameters, surface accuracy and the material of the tool have impact on surface finish quality, surface hardening, and state of stress on the surface to some degree. Appropriate processing times and rolling force can reduce and even eliminate the defects on the surface. As a kind of surface deformation processing, excessive plastic deformation can bring about micro-crack induced on the surface.Through the analysis of orthogonal experiments, we found that:with the increasing of the rolling force, more and more particles on the surface take part in the plastic deformation,. It optimized the mechanical property and extend the thickness of deformation. The tool traversed on the surface. It can make the transformation well-proportioned. The function of shape of the teeth and lube is less.
