Traffic signal control and Variable Message Signs(VMS) are two important subsystems of Intelligent Transportation Systems(ITS). Their main function is to manage real-time urban traffic flow on urban roads, traffic signal control emphasizes on temporal management while VMS emphasizes on spatial management. The urban traffic flow spatial-temporal indiscerptible quality requires the cooperation of traffic signal control with VMS. With the rapid increase in urban traffic volumes, traffic congestion has become more serious and this is not without many problems. Traffic signal control and VMS can hardly independently solve the urban traffic congestion problems. Therefore, there is need for Traffic signal control and VMS to cooperate, which will have good management effect on the urban traffic flow. Therefore, the thesis is to research the cooperation between traffic signal control and VMS through drawing lessons from achievements at home and abroad. The main contents of this thesis include:1. Based on the cooperative framework between the signal control and VMS, this paper analysis the necessity of cooperative and do the research on the principle they cooperative, the mechanism they work and the integration coupling mechanism of the cooperative.2. According to the four traffic states which are free flow, slight congestion, congestion and blockage, this paper use different cooperation model and the corresponding algorithm to do the research. The process of model construction is the main part.3. Based on the data of SP survey, this paper evaluates the effect of VMS under the condition of present misleading information and new misleading information. Some advises are given and the rounte choice effect is simulated by the cellular automata model at a certain induction rate.4. Base on the consistency principle of information induction, this paper analysis the generation method of guidance information and the process of information publishing under the consistency principle. The time when to publish the guidance information is figured out according to the road network.5. The last chapter concludes the work of the thesis, and puts forward theproposition. The research results above can instruct the engineering application, analyzing the benefit of combined signal control and route guidance, which have important theoretical value and realistic significance.
