As the demand for railway transport is increasing, the environment of railway system in China is changing. Till now, six large-scale speed increases have been implemented on the national railway network. With the operation of CRH, another wave of changes are coming. The changes of railway transport environment have impacts on the transport operation of marshaling stations. Therefore, new capacity coordination requirements will be proposed to marshaling stations. It is of great importance to make well capacity coordination of marshaling stations, as it can have great significance to the smooth operation of the entire hub and train flows on the network.Based on the study of international and domestic practices, this paper explains the theory of marshaling station capacity coordination and analyses the impact factors of the theory.On the basis of classification of functional systems of marshaling stations, the paper studies station-line capacity coordination of sub-systems of marshaling stations with the help of queuing theory. From the aspect of reasonable load of marshaling station sub-systems and the aspect of reasonable capacity ratio of connected marshaling station sub-systems, research methodology is established.For the station-line capacity coordination issues, the paper establishes marshaling station-line capacity coordination models, considering the practical conditions of domestic railway transport, and based on passenger dedicated railways impact analysis on marshaling station-line capacity coordination. Also, calculation examples are carried out to explain the models. Then a view point is stated that "the coordination of marshaling station capacity and limiting line section capacity within hub should be focused on to deal with marshaling station-line capacity coordination issues.The report has Xuzhou North Station as an example, firstly determines relevant technical standards with quantitative approaches; and then analyses its sub-system station-line capacity coordination situation; finally analyses the capacity coordination issues of Xuzhou North Station and limiting sections of Beijing-shanghai Railway within the hub, basing on great more freight trains in Beijing-shanghai Railway line in future.
