This paper takes automobile engine as diagnosis objects, and introduces the basic theory and system structure of Artificial Neural Network and Expert System. The traditional Expert may only deal with the apparent knowledge. Not only weak its inductive capacity is, but also the acquisition of knowledge has a bottleneck problem. But the Artificial Neural Network can just offset the shortage of Expert System. So combination of the Expert System and the Artificial Neural work makes up each other’s flaws, makes application of both in fault diagnosis field better, and so that comes true a huge leap of Artificial Intelligence in fault diagnosis.Creating a Expert System of fault diagnosis for automobile engine based on Neural Network, this paper reasons and diagnoses the fault by analyzing electronic controlled gasoline engine. The combination of Neural Network and Expert System adopts serial connecting, classes the faults gets further reasoning by explaining from Expert System, and obtains the last diagnosis result so that achieves fast precise and intelligent diagnosis of common fault of electronic controlled gasoline engine.The Neural Network Expert System as a system which is applied in automobile engine fault diagnosis has many advantages such as high practicability and expansion. So it expands applied scope in vehicle of diagnosis technique. In theory it enhances the feasibility of diagnosing automobile faults adopting intelligent method which makes diagnosis of automobile engine fault reach expert’s level.
