Research On Shanxi Pre-modern Industrial Architecture Under The Influence Of Western Architectural Culture

With invasion of Western capitalism and Spread of Westernization, modern industrial architecture as a new type of buildings came out in Shanxi province after80’of the19th century. During developing process, Shanxi industrial architecture, as a new type of modern architecture, was inevitably affected by social background, policy, cultural and geographical location, so changes can be found in the architecture and finally the architecture was developed into localized industrial buildings and combined Chinese and Western architectural forms.During merging of the Chinese and foreign construction culture, the great influence to Shanxi modern industrial building. This study promoting the localization of the Shanxi Modern Architecture.As a typical instance of Shanxi existing modern industrial building, Taiyuan arsenal, Northwest machinery factory, and Xingjian textile mills were studied. First of all, by inspection, collating and analysis of architectural history, development process of modern Shanxi industrial were introduced, and the distribution of industrial architecture and construction were made a specific conclusion,found the basic characteristics of the industrial buildings, And to reveal and analyze the typical characteristics of Shanxi industrial buildings; and then a detailed analysis of the industrial construction site, the layout of the building plane and function, architectural style, construction techniques and architectural were detailed analyzed; Finally, on the basis of previous studies, the author proposed the basic characteristics of the Shanxi Modern Architecture and then discussed and analyzed.By the study of modern industrial buildings, we found that Shanxi industrial buildings were greatly affected by foreign culture and policy basis and had distinctive characteristics of the times. The establishment and location were closely related to the policy proposed by Shanxi local officials; functional and layout were to flexible, on the basis of meeting the requirements; construction monomer commonly used rule rectangular plane, and Western mixed, blue bricks and gray tiles represent traditional culture. In the building technical, no used the original wooden structure, but the brick load-bearing brick and concrete structure, roof trusses to the introduction of a truss structure; in the building construction, they use Western tradition along a small masonry method; in the architectural detail decorative techniques and Western hybridity, rich architectural forms. Modern Shanxi industrial building is typical of modern architecture in Shanxi Modern building, and they were integration of traditional Chinese architectural elements, such as, the office, production, auxiliary and other single building. They gradually formed a new architectural style. In other words, they are the integrate of traditional Chinese culture with modern characteristics of industrial buildings.Shanxi modern industrial buildings showed the unique process of development and localization of new building types in the inland provinces, and revealed the process of dissemination and integration with the foreign culture in Shanxi, and then proclaimed fusion for Shanxi and Western architectural and cultural provided a reference for the modern industrial architectural and gave some reference for heritage protection.
