Dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) is a new photoelectric conversion device which gradually attracts people’s attention due to its high photoelectric conversion efficiency, simple manufacture, wide application, abundant raw materials, and environment friendly features. Until now, the efficiency of small area dye-sensitized solar cells reach12%. However, large-scale DSCs need to be further studied for the industrialization.In this study, the DSC with parallel structure was investigated in detail. The materials and methods were firstly oPtimized in the small-area DSC system, and then were applied into the large-sized DSC. We designed two parallel DSC structures with areas of5×5cm2and5×7cm2, respectively. The photoelectrochemical properties of the large-scale DSCs were also further examined by electrochemical method.Firstly, several components of DSC were oPtimized in small area DSCs system. For the photoelectrode, we studied the different types of pastes for active and scattering layers, as well as the different ways to fabricate mesoporous films. We compared the different methods for preparing platinized FTO glass counter electrode including spray and Dp methods. The efficiency of oPtimized small-area DSC can reach7.5-8%. We also investigated the conductivity and compactability of different metal gate electrodes. The rectangular DSCs were then fabricated under the oPtimized conditions. The effect of the silver gate electrode on the large-scale DSCs was demonstrated by analyzing the performance of the rectangular DSC.Secondly, we designed and fabricated three kinds of parallel large-scale DSCs (5-7-DSC,5-5-DSC). The influence of different materials and preparation methods was also investigated to find out the suitable methods for large-scale DSCs. The5-5-DSC and5-7-DSC gave a photoelectric conversion efficiency of6%.Finally, we fabricated the colorful and artistic large-scale DSCs which can act as both the power generation and environmental decoration. The large-scale DSCs can also be intergrated into the buildings to furher expand the application of DSCs.
