Lime compaction pile is a common way to treat foundation, it is widely used in thecollapsibility loess areas. There were a lot of practices about this type of engineering. But atpresent this engineering still cannot be designed depending on the material property andfoundation character.Authors have got the relationship between lime’s volume expansibility and its confinepressure by test. Based on the result, authors solved this problem at the base of regardingpile’s volume expansibility and its confine pressure as a coupling problem, and supposing thesoil body has ideal elastic-plastic and obeys C-M yield condition, and using the elastic-plastictheory. Following conclusions are obtained: Pile-hole pressure depends on the burial depths,Soil basic parameters, and the expansibility of the lime, and isn’t connection with the radiusof the pile hole; the relationship among plastic radius of soil, pressure of the pile hole andburial depth; the relationship among pressure of the pile hole, displacement of the hole edgeand burial depth; plastic radius of soil and displacement of the hole edge are proportional tothe designed radius of pile hole. After obtaining the above relations, As long as parameters of quick lime expansibilityand soil property are obtained through the experiments, engineering design can be donedirectly, which other than depend on experiential parameters formerly. This paper validates the theoretical formula’s applicability by two engineeringcalculation examples. Compared with the previous, using these formulas in this paper forengineering design are more accurate and reliable than the professional experience andjudgement in the past.
