The Understanding Of Beijing Cultural Spaces And Its Exploration Of Re-using

In the context of globalization and the Culture strategy published by seventeen sessions of six CCP plenary conferences, the city’s cultural connotation is attracting more attention than ever before. As the capital of China, Beijing proposed a goal of making "a world-influence cultural center city"; and Beijing, as the famous ancient world city and the national cultural center, is a city of rich cultural resources, while facing the problem between "protection and development". How to coordinate the protection of cultural resources and the need of the city development is one of the most important issues of urban culture. A new and dialectical understanding of the city cultural space in Beijing is a requirement of building the "Culture-enriched Beijing" strategy,. The exploration of the re-use of cultural resources has a significant influence on the city’s culture and the development of space.Based on the review of theory and practice analysis, this paper believes that the history of city and the diversity of culture is the basis of the development of urban culture; and with the process of globalization, culture demonstrated tremendous economic potential, and it is becoming one of the most important resources for urban development; while the cultural and creative industries is an important driving force to enhance city competitiveness nowadays. Then based on the analysis of Beijing cultural resources at different times and the city’s cultural strategy, this paper gives a dialectical interpretation of the city’s cultural space status, and points out the advantages and disadvantages of current status.The diffusion of global culture is not only challenging Beijing’s local culture, but also providing the chance for the city to become a world city with unique culture. By having a further understanding of the spatial scale and function of Beijing cultural resouces, this paper recommends one way of renewal Beijing’s cultural resources as follows:a combination with the creative industy. That is to say, not only protecting the cultural spaces themselves, but also re-using them through different ways, especially the creative industry.
