As the rapid development of cable-supported bridge in recent years, the structureand function of bridge are more and more complicated. Due to erosion of naturalenvironment, overload operation and material degradation and etc., many damages wasdiscovered on bridge structure, normal function is compromised, load capacity isdecreased, also potential safety issue is induced, and even sudden accident is initiatedby above problems. Cable-supported bridge is life related construction project, crucialattention should be paid on operational safety. Therefore, study on technology ofinspection and assessment of cable-supported bridge is determined to provide referencefor bridge maintenance, it is meaningful on theoretical and construction applicationarea.First of all, the history of development of cable-supported bridge is introduced inthis paper, the status of study on technology of inspection and assessment of this kindbridge in China and other countries are analyzed, and shortcomings is indicated oncurrent research in China. On the basis of herein, the significance of this study, maincontent and methodology are presented.Second, database of structural damage is established, including inducing damagetype for each component, analysis of the cause of damage, detailed definition anddescription on each damage type with graphic example, reference for bridge inspection,assessment and maintenance is provided.Third, one cable-stayed bridge with steel box girder is set as an example forintroducing IT into bridge inspection, based on current standard and initiativemaintenance sprint, complete and reasonable inspection system is established;inspection plan and calendar is laid down based on the result of hazard analysis, staticdamage database for cable stayed bridge and dynamic damage database for this bridgeis established, intellectual inspection device is developed, the inspection time is reduced,procedure is standardized, inspection data can be transferred, shared, also connected tothe automatic monitoring data seamlessly.The process model and computation method for cable stayed structure safetycondition assessment is presented based on the condition of suspension bridge with steeltruss girder, it is performed in association with health monitoring and electrical-aidedmanual inspection, this method is proven reasonable and feasible by using actual data.The health monitoring date for orthotropic steel deck is utilized in fracturemechanic; the result proves it is feasible by using actual monitoring data and fracturemechanic theory to conduct fatigue life assessment on cable-stayed bridge; it can bereferenced and learned for other similar project.
