A geography information factor and improvement differential evolution algorithm is proposed to deal with substation optimal sizing and locating problem in morden city power grid planning. A comprehensive planning model is presented which considers substation construction and operation expenditure and geography informations such as nature of land, transportation conditions, flood control and drainage, geographical features and construction conditions based on interval analytical hierarchy process(IAHP). Moreover, sharing niche is adopted in differential evolution algorithm called adaptive niche which adaptive adjusts niche radius according to the gathering conditions of the swarms by the intervals of individuals to improve the global optima searching capability and efficiency. The addressed method is tested by a realistic planning area to show its practical and performance.
