As columns are bearing components in reinforced concrete (RC) structures, theperformance of RC structures in fire is greatly influenced by the fire behaviors of the columns.Till now, there are many research results on fire performance of individual RC columns.Meanwhile, the fire performance of restrained RC columns without lateral displacement hasalso been studied. However, when a frame structure is in fire, the thermal expansion of theneighbor components may lead to the lateral displacement at the end of the column, whichmay affect the fire behavior of the columns to some extent. Recently there are few researcheson fire behaviors of RC columns considering lateral displacement at column end. Therefore,this paper performs a preliminary research on the fire performance of restrained RC columnswith time-dependent sidesway. Research details involved here are:1) The deformation properties of multistory multispan RC frame under fire of ISO834standard heating curve were analyzed by professional structural fire resistance analysingsoftware SAFIR. Four typical fire conditions were taken into account, and the changing lawswith time of the lateral displacement at the end of the columns were got.2) Abundant analysis was done to get the influence factors, and the correspondingquantitatively express of them were established. As a result, the formula of thetime-dependent sidesway of RC columns was proposed.3) The internal force and deformation under ISO834standard heating curve of therestrained RC columns without and with time-dependent sidesway were studied andcompared by professional structural fire resistance analysing software SAFIR, and theinfluence of the time-dependent sidesway on the internal forces and deformation wasrevealed.4) Abundant parametric analysis was conducted by professional structural fire resistanceanalysing software SAFIR, and the influence these parameters on the deformation andinternal force at high temperature of restrained RC columns with time-dependent sideswaywas got.
