Maoming SPM had experienced four times Leakage in the first carcass of four differentsubmarine hoses from April2009to February2011, the main purpose for this project is tofind out the reasons and bring forward some solutions to solve this problem. The article introduced simply the components of Maoming SPM and the construction ofsubmarine hose first, then it showed us how important the project was to ensure the crude oilsupply for MPCC and then ensured the supply of petrochemical product for South andSouthwest of China, and how important it is for marine anti-pollution. It was also decided tocarry out the research by a basic way which took the internal and external factors into accounttogether. The research was based on the report “RD1991Maoming King Ming SPM ChineseLantern System Analysis rev1” from Dunlop, and it looked back into the internal factors ofthe failed submarine hoses such as strength, manufacture procedure and specification etc.,and then it focused on the effect what will happen following the changing of external factorsin the recent year such as300,000DWT VLCC, slacking of mooring chain and buoychanged,. All above works played a key role on deciding that the main reasons for the failurehoses were rough sea condition and lack of strength, and the changing of external factorswere inducement. At last the article brought forward some solutions. It took almost2years to completed the research since December2009, the author hadchecked all the original reports of construction and consulted many standards on SPM system, the idea which was put forward by the author that shallow water effect is not the main reasonof submarine hoses is key for MPCC to keep VLCC of300,000t discharging at MaomingSPM. Even more, it was very important for the future configuration design of submarine hoseat Maoming SPM by correcting two fault data input on hawse load and extreme excursion inthe report of Dunlop.
