With the development of the national economy, the social demand for electricity is growing, and the distribution network has been expanding. It makes the traditional management methods cannot meet the requirement of distribution network management. The introduction of the Geographic Information System (GIS) in Distribution Management System (DMS) has improved the reliability of the power grid and the efficiency of management. At present, the GIS system in the distribution network is mostly commercial GIS platform which usually only support the Windows system and is expensive. The open-source GIS platforms have "open" and "free" characteristics, and most of them can ran on different operating systems. Recently, the open-source GIS software has developed rapidly, and applied successfully in many fields. The thesis uses the open-source GIS platform as the development platform of the distribution network, and researches the development and function of the open-source GIS. According to the characteristics of the power system, the thesis discusses some main open-source GIS software in the aspects like software functions, development environment, development languages, and development support and so on. And ultimately selects uDig as the development platform of the distribution network. The model of power system used by different GIS platforms is not uniform, and other information management systems of distribution network have their own model, resulting in the difficulty among different information management systems for resource sharing and data exchange. In order to achieve the sharing of resources between the GIS system and other distribution network information management systems, and make full use of existing data, the thesis uses the Common Information Model (CIM) to model the distribution network. By adding the appropriate properties in the CIM class to indicate the state of electrical equipment, the speed of the distribution network topology analysis can be improved greatly. The thesis uses Eclipse as the development tool to develop uDig platform by the method combined with SDK development method and SRC development method. The thesis uses mixed management method to manage the distribution network data, uses uDig to manage spatial graphics data, uses PostgreSQL to manage attribute data, and the two types of data are associated by unique identifier. On the basis of the current distribution network topology analysis methods, an integrated topology analysis method is proposed, which applies to both inside and outside of substation. The method can be divided into the global topology analysis and the local topology analysis according to the scope of the topology analysis. It accelerates the speed of response of the topology analysis program to the change of distribution network structure. In addition, the thesis implements some applications based on topology analysis, such as the topology coloring, tracing power point, power supply area analysis, simulating operation, and so on. At last, the program runs on Quanzhou distribution network, the results show that the program runs quickly and accurately.
