Urban transportation is a dynamic, complex and huge system, which is composed of people, vehicles, street network, private transportation and public transportation, and it is also one of the most important components of a city. Besides, as another important component of a city, urban citizens are the drivers of urban transportation. To some extent, the travel behaviors of citizens can be considered as the source of various urban transportation problems. Therefore, the research on the law of the travel behaviors of urban citizens can provide lots of valuable experiences for the solving of urban transportation problems. Given to this, this paper aims to research the law of the travel behaviors of urban citizens on the basis of the world-wide relevant research achievements. In general, the main tasks are described as follows:1. The world-wide research achievements on the travel behaviors of urban citizens related research area are simply summarized, and then the main tasks in this paper are lead out.2. The data used in this paper together with its methods of acquiring and processing are described. Firstly, the acquiring principles and methods of floating car data and the reason why the floating car data should be processed are described. Then, a new floating car data processing method is proposed aimed at the actual needs. Finally, the floating car data is processed by use of this new method.3. An exploratory spatial data analysis based method for the research of the statistical law of the travel behaviors of urban citizens is proposed. Firstly, the principles and methods of exploratory spatial data analysis, which is used frequently recently, are introduced. Then, the new method is used to the research of the statistical law of the travel behaviors of urban citizens. Specifically speaking, it mainly includes these three aspects:the length of the traveling trajectories, the time duration of the trajectories and the area of the range of traveling. In the end, some beneficial conclusions are draw out by some experiments.4. A clustering analysis based method for the research of spatio-temporal distribution law of the travel behaviors of urban citizens is proposed. In this section, firstly, a kernel density estimation based spatio-temporal clustering method is developed on the basis of the traditional spatial clustering. Then, the new spatio-temporal clustering method is used to the research of the spatio-temporal distribution law of the travel behaviors of urban citizens, meaning the spatial distribution law and the temporal distribution law. At last, the conclusions on the spatio-temporal distribution law are draw out based on an experiment.
