Shear wall is often used to resist horizontal shear forces for its largestiffness and superior performance to resist lateral displacement, inthe standards of our country, the maximum height of which is far largerthan that of the frame. It can be considered as one kind of independentsystem of high-rise building, or work with the frame or slab column in theframe-shear wall, slab column-shear wall and tube structure. So shear wallis widely used in high-rise buildings. In this article, the static performanceand dynamic performance of shear wall are discussed to provide referencefor the future design and engineering practice.(1) For the shear wall with hole, the dimension and orientation allhave influence to the static and dynamic properties, such as the stiffness, deformation, natural frequencies and so on. Totally, the hole is larger andcloser to the top and two sides of the shear wall; the load capacity of thecomponent is lower, vice versa. The openings rate of the shear wall is bestnot more than30%. The hole is best arranged in the bottom and center ifthe static performance is considered only. It is best offset to the topappropriately if taking the dynamic performance into account at the sametime. In addition, comparing with the hand-calculation, computing methodsput the axial stiffness into account, so the results of the deformationcalculation are much greater.(2) One project of a residential high-rise shear wall building in Hunanis calculated to show the great stiffness, reasonable natural periods andappropriate overturning moment. The comparative analysis between the structure under the openings rate recommended in this article and theoriginal one is done to prove the greater stiffness of the smaller openingsrate of the shear wall. At last, it found that the shear wall structure have anice pushover performance by pushover analysis.(3) Another project of Museum of the Chinese Academy is calculatedand analyzed. The results show that the stiffness of the structure ismoderate, and the total displacement, story displacement and overturningmoment all meet the norms. The natural periods are reasonable. Thevibration mode and the corresponding mass distribution show a gooddynamic performance. In addition, the deformation, the internal forcedistribution, the total shear force in base and the ratio between shearingforce and weight under the horizontal seismic action show the well seismicperformance of the structure. By comparing the original structure with theframe, it proves that the structure with shear wall would get better staticand dynamic properties.
