Substation is the hub of the electric power system substation,whether it can run normally or not,directly affects the normal power supply of the electricity sector. What’s more, the lightning invasion wave overvoltage is the main source of the substation. Therefore, research calculation method of the lightning over voltage in-depth, choose a high accuracy calculation method to measure the equipment-s’insulation level, improve the lightning protection system’s rigorous and economy, keep the substation’s lightning accident to the lowest level is very necessary.The paper creatively put forward a numerical method based on Improved Euler formula to calculate lightning over-voltage, carefully analysis the steps of method and equivalent model in detail,and give a detailed argument on the method,s scientific and feasibility. After ensuring the feasibility of the numerical method, The author ues the method combined with VB6.0prepared a calculation of substation lightning invasion wave overvoltage software.Then, using the software in110kV and220kV substation to analysis the equipment’s insulation level,have obtained equipment’s over-voltage magnitude and distribution characteristics in different operation modes,different lightning current amplitude, different tower grounding resistance, different lightning points, different height and different models of the wires,which provides a certain amount of reference datas for the substation project construction the development. In addition,the paper has given a further analysis and explore on the inadequacies of substation’s lightning protection program, putting forword constructive views on the optimal value of the arrester installation location, tower grounding resistance, wire height and wire models of selection. This article is not considered the corona effect in the analysis of the substation lightning over-voltage, so the calculated results lay on the safer side.
