Common hollowed-block masonry is limited for its application in the field of constructionworks due to its weak capability of shear strength, poor seismic performance and so on. Topsurface enclosed "I"-shaped hollow brick masonry is a new type of the masonry structure, whose purpose is able to improve the performance of the mechanical interlocking betweenthe blocklayers to improve the shear resistance of masonry. Block was designed into a shapedbond surface to change the horizontal mortar seams in traditional block into the tooth seam, which increase the shear capacity and energy dissipation capacity effectively. At the sametime,"top surface enclosed" is another important feature of "I"-shaped hollow brickmasonry,it is effective to avoid some shortcomings that Common hollowed-block masonryhave a hollow hole up and down through the masonry, the paste falling into the holeand inconvenience to the masonry, while its insulation effect is reduced.Seven top surface enclosed "I"-shaped hollow brick masonry were studied usingpseudo-static test methods. Firstly, five specimens tests were organized with loess mud asmaterial and vertical load as test parameters, and then, vertical load was viewed as a constantand bond strength of masonry was designed as parameter, two specimens tests were organizedto compared with one of the former five specimens. The results showed that,1) The bite forceof teeth seam between upper and lower layer can fully develop shear strength of top surfaceenclosed "I"-shaped hollow brick masonry, thus improve the seismic performance ofstructures significantly;2) In the case of axial compression ratio does not exceed a certainvalue, structural performance of specimens improve with the increasing vertical load, on thecontrary, they decrease;3)Bond strength of the adhesive material and thickness of masonrymortar do not influence on the shear strength of specimens significantly. That is to say, a thinand low-strength adhesive mortar materials is required when top surface enclosed "I"-shapedhollow brick masonry was bricked, which can make the top surface enclosed "I"-shapedhollow brick masonry reduce engineering costs, increase the range of applications. Theexperimental investigation is another attempt to develop a new type of hollow brick masonry.
