The Rain-wind induced vibration is a strong kind of stay cable vibrations, whichoften occurs on the combined influence of wind and rain. As the span of cable-stayedbridge becomes larger and larger, Rain-wind induced vibration of stay cable hasbecome serious. During the observation of rain-wind induced vibration of cables ofcable-stayed bridges, it is found that the formation and movement of water rivulethave significant effects on the rain-wind induced vibration of stay-cables, but thecomplex mechanism is one of the key and the difficult subjects of the Rain-windinduced vibration. In this paper, the Reynolds number effect on cables was studiedwith whether water rivulet has effect on the aerodynamic force and aerodynamicstability of cables, to prepare for explaining the fundamental mechanism of theRain-wind induced vibration. Compared with smooth wind, transient wind has itsown characteristics. Meanwhile, it is worth studying whether the transient wind haseffect on cables aerodynamic stability. The major contents of the dissertation includedthe following:Firstly, the Reynolds number effect on cables was studied with whether waterrivulet has effect on the aerodynamic force of cables, The curves of average dragcoefficient, average lift coefficient of cables with different locations of water rivuletversus Reynolds number were obtained. The Reynolds number effect on cables withdifferent locations of water rivulet was analysized.Secondly, the aerodynamic stability of cables was studied with water rivulet, Thecurve of amplitude with Reynolds number was obtained. Meanwhile, In conjunctionwith the force tests of cables, coefficient of the galloping changes with Reynoldsnumber was researched. combining with water rivulet、vibration amplitude、Reynoldsnumber effect and galloping coefficient, the effect of change of water rivulet toamplitude vibration of cables of cable-stayed bridges and the mechanism of thisvibration were analysized. These would provide important reference and guidance forfurther research. Finally, the Reynolds number effect on cables was studied with whether transientwind has effect on the aerodynamic stability of cables, this paper discusses therelation of the amplitude vibration of cables and the critical Reynolds number, Thesewould provide important reference and guidance for the vibration problem ofcable-stayed bridges research in extreme weather.
