Near-fault ground motion is significantly different from the general far-field groundmotion. It is rich in long-period pulse which will cause excessive displacement of isolationlayer, leading to destruction of isolated structure. Soft-collision system is able to limit thedisplacement of isolation layer to required extent through the soft-collision between thestopper and the isolated structure without affecting the seismic performance of structure underfrequent earthquake.In this paper, theory analysis of soft-collision spacing is conducted, and a practical softcollision limiting device is introduced. The design process of isolated structure and theimplementation of isolation analysis in sap2000are described using a project example.What’s more, the design method of soft collision limiting is put forward through theparameters analysis of the restrictor. The results in this paper provide certain reference valuefor the soft collision limiting of isolated structure.
