AbstractSpiral bevel gears are widely used transmission components in aircraft, ships, precision machine tools, construction machinery and vehicles. Precise three-dimensional solid models are essential for the finite element analysis, dynamic analysis, digital simulation. Based on the research of results presented of process on the spiral bevel gear, three-dimensional modeling and tooth contact analysis, author proposed a modeling approach based on discrete tooth surface model of spiral bevel gear, a tooth contact analysis approach based on discrete tooth surface, and established a software system to achieve modeling and tooth contact analysis.The first chapter introduced the research status of the process of spiral bevel gear, the three-dimensional solid modeling method, spiral bevel gear tooth contact analysis and parametric modeling for spiral bevel gear. And presented the content and organizational structure of the paper.The second chapter presentd a discretized modeling method for spiral bevel gear. According to different forming principle of tooth surfaces and different geometry, established the grid model of the discrete surface for big-tooth. Based on the mathematical model of the tilt method, established the vector equation of small-tooth surface, and then acquire discretization data to established small-tooth model.The fourth chapter developed a design and modeling system which also can achieve tooth contact analysis for spiral bevel gear, based on the research of discretization modeling and tooth contact analysis, using VC++with Pro/Toolkit and Matlab library in Visual Studio2005environment.The fifth chapter summarized the contents of research work and outlooked the endeavor orientation of the future research.
