With the rapid economic development, the heavy traffic has become one of the mainfactors that restrain the urban development and affect people’s normal work and study. It’svery important for researchers to work out plans for traffic control that the road trafficinformation is acquired rapidly and exactly so that the congestion locations can be easilyidentified. It’s a new technology to use floating vehicle run GPS data to evaluate road trafficcondition. Based on GPS floating car collection, this paper collects real-time trafficinformation, analyzes the related data, obtains the effective transport parameters informationthrough map matching, evaluates the traffic state of the road where floating vehicle locates,and provides the basis and supporting information for traffic management department andtravelers.Firstly, the paper reviews the research status of traffic information collection and trafficconditions fuzzy discriminant method, laying foundations for the paper’s research.This paper introduces the structure, module and the working principle of the GPSfloating vehicle traffic information collection system. Then it analyzes the technique involvedin the collection and process. It includes the GPS floating vehicle traffic informationreasonable using, the analysis and process of the collected information, and the application ofthe traffic information in the conditions evaluation.Then the paper analyzes the method of sampling time interval and minimum number ofsamples involved in the GPS floating vehicle traffic information technique. It analyzes andpretreatments the original data, including and repair of the abnormal data identifying,restoring and filtering. It gives the method to define the road length and the range ofsignalized intersections. Then it matches the efficacious data with the electronic maps tomake sure the exact location of the floating vehicle on the road. Also it builds algorithmmodel to estimate the traffic parameters based on the secondary development of Mapbasicprogramming. As the traffic conditions are uncertain and fuzzy, a fuzzy comprehensiveevaluation model has been built to distinguish the road traffic state.Finally, it uses the real traffic data collected by the equipped floating vehicles in a casestudy to prove that the evaluation model is feasible and practical.
