The cooling system is an important part of the engine, The function of which is toensure engine work normally and reliably at the most suitable temperature in any loadcondition and environment. With the development of technology, the level of enginemanufacturing is improving. Meanwhile, the problem of the engine’s mechanical and thermalloads is obvious. The cooling system will been put forward higher requirement. More andmore examples of the cooling fan fracture has been revealed.Taking a diesel engine cooling fan as an example, based on the test, combined with thedesign and other related techniques, the problem of the cooling fan fracture will been settledand the operation of it will been enhanced.Testing dynamic performance of the cooling fan, combined with the method of vibrationanalysis, find out the reason why the fan was broken.firstly, the bending natural frequency isclose to the first two ones of the cooling fan, when the fan was installed. So that the fan wasbroken with the resonance phenomenon. Secondly, wheel rigidity was so high, not only didn’tplay the isolation role, but to enlarge the crankshaft vibration and transmiss it to the fan, which was caused to break. Design the wheel rigidity to solve the fan breakage problem.Determined the static and dynamic rigidity by theoretical calculation on the basis of thepassive isolation principle. Produce two wheels named A and B with a slight differencerigidity. Test the static of the wheels and Verify the results meet the requirement. Through themodal and vibration test when the wheel was installed. Comparative analysis between the twowheels and the one before improvements, Come to the conclusion that style A wheel hasmeet the conditions to protect the cooling fan and worked the isolation function.
