This study covers the response of single point mooring buoy in wave, the selection of types of single point moorings CALM buoy at the300,000deadweight tonnage rank crude oil terminal in Maoming Port, South China Sea, analyzing the optimization of the main dimensions of the buoy. Calculation results show:the selection of buoy type is more significant than optimization of main dimension of the buoy. A new primary idea of new buoy type on how to protect submarine hoses and floating hoses effectively and increase hoses’ service life is also mentioned in this study. The study also details information about the first single point moorings system in China mainland, its offshore environment and local socioeconomic conditions, especially the production and operation in terms of crude oil refining in Sinopec Maoming Petrochemical Corporation, being the only one client of Maoming single point mooring system as described in this paper.In the past17years, Maoming Single Point Mooring System has more than650numbers of very large crude carriers (VLCC) berths, discharging nearly one hundred and thirty million metric tonnage of crude oil without any oil pollution. It has also saved more than three billion (RMB) in crude oil transportation fee comparing with Zhanjiang Port gaining enormous economic and social benefit. It must be considered how to improve Chinese lantern type submarine hose strings and try to extend the hoses service life in the future after the occurrence of4times inner failures to the primary carcass of submarine hoses (the submarine hose is double carcass design) in Maoming single point mooring system in the past two years. The actual reason causing the failure to the hoses must be found, and as such the selection of buoy type and main dimensions optimization was tabled in this paper.Firstly, this essay briefly gives an introduction to the background of this study and the situations of study in single point mooring system home and abroad. Secondly, it gives an emphasized introduction to the single point mooring system or CALM Buoy terminal, especially mentioning details information of Maoming single point mooring system.This paper puts forward a new idea to modify the anchor chain system by clamping weights to the chain basing on the continued increase in discharge capacity and tanker deadweight at a stage where the anchor piles could not be changed. The more details calculation basing on3different tide levels and5different weight clamps is fulfill for SO17160turntable buoy and IM1560wheel and track buoy, resulting in the characteristic of anchor chains be improved by weight clamps.The last section summarizes the full paper with the final conclusion showing that optimization of the type of buoy is more efficient than optimization of the main dimension of buoy in wave. A new concept or type of buoy is mentioned in this article, and that is self-adjustment buoy system, buoy C.This study will have significant effects on increasing the discharge capacity of Maoming single point mooring system, protecting submarine hoses and floating hoses, extending the service life of the hoses and improving pollution protection through reduction of hose failures. At the same time, it will serve as a reference for the owner of single point mooring system, maritime safety administration, pilot station and design companies in the future.
