Structure optimization as an important part of the engineering design, the purposeof which is to restrain the best layout under certain materials. With the shortage ofmaterials, the environment and technology increasingly fierce competition, lightweight, low cost and high performance structure is needed in the future society.Based on the analysis of the structural topology optimization basic theory, thebasic mathematical model of the topology optimization method is gotten; and on thebasis of the evolutionary structural topology optimization methods(ESO),bi-directional evolutionary structural optimization method (BESO) is further studied,meanwhile, the formula of the element sensitivity formula is gotten, the phenomenonof checkerboard is effectively controlled through the element filter algorithm,and thebi-directional evolutionary structural topology optimization method overcomes theshortage of traditional structrues optimization that the element is removed can not berestored in the subsequent iteration.For the implementation of the modified BESOmethod, a combination of finite element software ABAQUS with programminglanguage MATLAB is used.The SIMP material interpolation model is adopted in this article.The elmentstrain sensitivity formula is exported on the basis of the stiffness algorithm. ClassicMichell structure, the plate structure by the shear force, and one side of cantileverclamped are optimized by the stiffness criteria, element stress change is comparedbefore and after optimization of the contrast model in the load path, the volumefraction and the convergence of the variation of performance indicators is analyzed inthe iterative process.After analyzing the problems and flaws in the previous evolutionary structuraltopology method, the previous bi-directional evolutional structural optimization(BESO) method based on von Mises stress is improved by introducing a new materialinterpolation model in this paper. Adopting this modified BESO method, the topologyoptimization of the flywheel is further researched in this paper, and the optimizedflywheels with rational structures and clear profiles are found. At last, variationcharacteristics of the flywheel optimal topology are analyzed and summarized as thestructure volume and rotationally period are changing.
