Castellated beams are steel I-beams with a certain line on the web by cutting,assembling and welding,which have holes on the web.In addition to the advantage oflightweight,high strength and good seismic performance which general steel structureowned,Castellated beams owns its merits of beautiful environmental protection,utilization of cross-section,easy to wire and piping through.More important is thepurpose of saving steel, reducing the cost of steel.The control factor of castellated beams damage is still the overall stability.Thispaper premises a lot of theoretical knowledge,uses energy method to derive steelI-beam Formula,with various moments of critical load.The weakening of the webs isthe reason why castellated beams different from solid web beam,Equivalent stiffnessmethod is proposed.This paper will use the finite element analysis software ANSYSto calculat the deflection of the cantilever castellated beam,then calculate theequivalent stiffness using the request deflection,at last,calculate castellated beam’slateral stiffness reduction factor.Formula of octagonal hole Castellated Beam withvarious moments of critical load is proposed.This article discusses the impact offactors on the overall stability of the octagonal hole Castellated Beam for theengineering practice.In this paper, the finite element analysis software ANSYS will be used to calculatoctagonal hole castellated beam with various moments of critical load.Then calculatethe difference with the results of the theoretical formula which can check theprecision of the formula.At the same time,calculate the critical load of correspondingsolid web beam,in order to offer the design formula.Then the paper calculates the critical load of solid web beam divided by thecritical load of castellated Beam,which is called reduction factor,using overallstability formula based on Code for design of steel structures(GB50017-2003),offersthe design formula about the overall stability of the octagonal hole Castellated Beam.
