The friction and wear do enormous economic losses to human beings every year, so if we can reduce unnecessary friction and wear will have high practicality signification. For the present research of friction and wear, especially in colleges and universities, it is facing the equipment of study is deficient and the price is high, the shortage of funds for research, research sites not enough etc.. In order to help resolve or minimize the related problems, the conception of establishing virtual pin-on-disc frictional experiment system is proposed in this paper. And the results show that it is very useful and practicality for the general research on friction and wear and the colleges and universities teaching demonstration through the actual operation.The correlative models of virtual pin-on-disc frictional experiment system are established by using VRML virtual reality software combined with CATIA3D modeling software. The multimedia and interactive of some correlative models are designed by using the associated node of VRML, and then using the correlation function of Matlab neural network toolbox to train the primitive discrete sample test data, get the continuous association-memory result. And the result is transmitted to the dynamic text of VRML with Java as the bridge to realize the interaction between the user and the virtual pin-on-disc frictional experiment system. The user can also do the virtual friction experiments online through the network, so that it can solve the lack of experimental equipment and space.The following items mainly completed:(1)Using CATIA three-dimensional modeling technology to create a virtual friction test machine complex internal structure model, and then using the related node of VRML to establish the virtual pin-on-disc frictional experiment system external model and scene.(2)Using the multimedia technology of VRML software to add map, sound and animation to the virtual pin-on-disc frictional experiment system, and interactive technology of VRML software and Java procedures for the realization of virtual system and user interaction.(3) Establishing the database by actual experimental data, and then using the correlation function of Matlab neural network toolbox to train the data in the database, get the continuous association-memory result.(4) Writing interface procedures with VRML and the Java as a bridge to realize the communication between the virtual pin-on-disc frictional experiment system and the Matlab neural network.(5) Embedding the edited VRML files and the Java Applet file into a HTML file to realize the network publishing of the virtual pin-on-disc frictional experiment system.
