Reactive power compensation techniques have been more widely used in low voltagedistribution network. It can compensate the inductive reactive power generated in the grid toimprove power factor and power quality in the grid. Therefore, the design of low voltagereactive power compensation device has important application value.This paper firstly analyzes the basic principles of the reactive power compensation,compensation method and compensation capacity, and then discusses in detail the advantagesof reactive power compensation synchronous closing. In this paper, the choice of switchingcomponents is the vacuum switch, which can meet the request of achieving voltage zeroinput and current zero-removal of capacitor group, and reduce the grid over-voltage andsurge phenomenon. The selection of control thought is voltage-reactive power control mode,which can make the capacitor accurately switching to avoid voltage switching oscillation inthe critical region. Secondly, the design of hardware and software part of the reactive powercompensation device, adopts TMS320F2812chip as a control chip, which is high-speedoperation, real-time, and high accuracy energy metering chip ATT7022A. The design ofhardware circuit includes a sampling circuit, test circuits and control circuits; and softwareadopts C programming language which improves the system’s versatility and maintenance.The main wiring of the device, selection requirements of major electrical components andprotection program are given in this paper.
