Airborne infrared search and tracking systems play an important role in the modern war. A design method of a catadioptric far-infrared optical system was proposed and the system was designed for the performance and properties of airborne infrared search and tracking system in this paper. Aberration was corrected by using the same infrared material in the catadioptric optical system. The system meet the design demand and can be used for airborne infrared search and tracking. An optical system with285mm focal length, F/l relative aperture and8~14μm work waveband was designed in this paper. MTF of the system for every field at the frequency of301p/mm is above0.1. The result satisfy the imaging requirements of FPA with pixel numbers of640X480and pixel size of17μm.The imagine quality will be affected due to defocus which result from the change of working environment, especially the changes of atmospheric pressure and temperature. The effect of the atmospheric pressure and temperature in2900m~3200m to optical system was analyzed in this paper.
