With the rapid development of computer technology, CFD has become an important partof the research of ship techniques. Recently, the computational method of viscous free surfaceflow is being developed rapidly, because of its complexity and high requirement of computerhardware. All-direction propeller has become one of the most widely uesd propellers.Although the research of its propulsive performance has been discussed and researched for anumber of years, the research of the interaction between the hull and the propellers were notusually considered. In China, the studies of shallow water vessels are relatively few, theresearches on hydrodynamic performance of propeller-ship combination in shallow water areeven more few. This paper focuses on the propulsion performance of the shallow water vessels withall-direction propellers. The dissertation mainly takes about the following statements: thedevelopment of the all-direction propeller system, the theoretical study of propellerperformance, the preliminary ship design, the design of the propellers, the research of CFDcalculation method, the impact of ship propulsion performance due to the shallow channel, different speed, or the reverse sailing. The thesis bases on CFD (computer fluid dynamics) and numerical simulation of thepropulsion of all-direction propeller flow field, which is carried out by means of businessapplication software of CFD: STAR CCM+. In order to study the propulsion performance andthe resistance of all-direction propeller vessel, the author adopts the following typicaloperation modes. First, the performances of the sailing ship in shallow water channel anddeep-water channel are compared, we acquire that the shallow water make a greater impacton the resistance of the vessels. Second, the performances of the sailing ship in shallow waterare tested under three different speed, we can make the designed vessel is successful for itsresistance and propeller performance rudder to meet the requirements. Third, when the shipsails in the opposite direction, the resistance of the vessel changes greatly. Through thepropeller performance studies we can determine the best sailing of the ship reverseparameters.
