Accurate prediction of ship slamming load is of great significance for strengthassessment and optimal design of hull structures. Calculation method of ship slammingresponse which is based on hydroelasticity theory was mainly studied. The results wereVerified by experimental values. This paper summarized the research methods on slamming.Firstly, the numericalsimulation of two-dimensional structures were studied by dynamic analysis softwareMSC.Dytran.The peak value coefficient of impact pressure of wedge-shaped body wasobtained and verified with experimental value of Chuang. The distribution of impact pressureof flat-bottom structure and U-shaped structure were analyzed.Secondly, model test on slamming of a container ship was conducted. The model and shipcomplies with similar conditions. The impact pressure and model motion were measured andanalyzed. A distribution model of flare slamming about time was proposed, model parameterswere studied.Secondly again, the impact pressure of model test point was caculated based on impulsemethod and calculation programs in Fortran language were developed. The distribution modelabout time was used in caculation and caculation results were consistent with theexperimental data. The experimental value and theoretical result of model motion were used inthe calculation programs, two meaningful values were obtained and compared withexperimental value. The errors among them were analyzed. Finally, ship’s vibration modal analysis equation was established. The impact pressure ofhull was caculated based on impulse method. The impact moment was obtained by integralimpact pressure along hull suface. Then ship motion and section moment were caculated andcompared with experimental value. At the same time, the impact pressure of hull was alsocaculated based on momentum method, the results of ship motion and section moment whichwere caculated in different impact pressure caculation methods were compared.
