As important machine parts,flat spiral springs and conical helical springs are widelyused.However,at present,the design of them is still based on the traditional trial-and-errormethod.Hence the efficiency and accuracy of the design is very low.Recently FiniteElement method(EFM) and Optimal Design have formed wide applications in the machinedesign of almost every field.Therefore it is necessary to study how to design springsefficiently and accuratly using FEM and optimal design method.This thesis is concerned with design of non-contact flat spiral and conical helicalsprings.Using FEM and optimal method,the difference between analytic and FEM solutionfor the mechnical property curve of non-contact flat spiral springs is investigated.Therelation between the mechnical property curve and the number of coils was studied.Theinfluence of the number of coils and ratio of radius on uniformity of bending moment ofnon-contact flat spiral springs was studied.The relation between the change of forceapplied in endpoint of non-contact flat spiral springs and relative location of endpointinside and outside the springs was studied.A new ideas through the combination of two inflat spiral springs to improve the linearity of it’s mechanical property curve,a optimaldesign scheme about using optimal module of ANSYS software design non-contact flatspiral and a optimal design scheme for conical helical springs based on deformation of asingle turn are provided.
