Safe and stable operation of the power grid has been growing attention. In recent years,computer technology and artificial intelligence theory are rapidly developed. Computertechnology and artificial intelligence theory are applied to the relay technology, graduallyformed a microcomputer relay protection technology. Combination of computer technologyand artificial intelligence theory is applied to the relay techno logy, and gradually formed amicrocomputer relay protection technology. Microcomputer relay protection technology ismore and more intelligent, and is the major trends in the development of future powersystem monitoring and protection.According to the power system transmission line protection characteristics, the subjectof the research applied gray neural network technology to the transmission line relayprotection equipment. Therefore, we can give a comprehensive judgment to failures oftransmission lines, which can control the action of the relay to the fault or alarm signalaccurately.Since the power system is a complex and large nonlinear network, in this paper, grayneural network self-learning is adapted to judge the type of transmission line failures.Firstly, power system simulation software PSCAD is used to create a double back powersystem model. Through this model, we can simulate single phase to ground fault ontransmission lines and collect failure data as the input of gray neural network. Secondly,MATLAB neural network toolkit is used to train the gray neural networks, and thus we canverify network operation quickly and accurately. Finally, NI LabVIEW software is used tobuild a transmission line protection test platform. In this platform, program throughMATLAB node call trained gray neural network. Therefore, we can monitoring of powersystem transmission lines online, and can train the neural network offline.
