Study On Performance Of Piston Rings For Internal Combustion Engine

With the internal combustion engine to keep the direction of the smaller, the loweremission, the higher speed and the lighter weight, there has a higher demand for thecombustion chamber because of higher temperature and higher pressure combustionenvironment, and there has a big challenge for the components of combustion chamber.Piston rings as a part of the combustion chamber, has an important implications in internalcombustion engine. The basic function of piston rings is sealing, lubrication, transferringheat and supporting the piston. The poor working environment with high temperature andhigh pressure is a huge challenge for piston rings performance.Paper studies five different models piston rings from different manufacturers, pistonrings with a coordinate measuring machine are measured free state outside line data, andprogram to fit piston rings’ function for free state-based line. To analysis the radial pistonpressure distribution according to the piston ring outer circular line equation, and thepressure function and fit the standard references and conducted a comparison between thetwo are in good agreement. According to the experimental conditions of a diesel enginecalibration measured pressure data, establish leak sealing system simulation model of thepiston rings to analyze the amount of the internal combustion engine piston rings’ leakageperformance.The results show that, different processing methods on the piston rings’ free stateoutline-type has a great impact, free state outline-type directly affects the pressuredistribution of the radial piston rings; The sealing performance for set of piston rings’system directly affects the internal combustion engine, economy performance, powerperformance and emissions performance. Good air sealing performance is a prerequisitefor internal combustion engines work.
