China is extremely rich in water resources, the dams which have been built or underbuilding are the most in the world. Hydropower is rapid development as the clean renewableresourcesas China has adopted the strategy of sustainable development;With the accelerateddevelopment of hydropower energy using, China is in the peak period of water conservancyconstruction. Gravity dam as an ancient and important dam type which be widely usedbecause of the most advantages, it is the main dam type of our country. Once the dam isdamaged, it will produce disastrous consequences of disastrous, and the earthquake istheeasiest to cause the dam to the destruction, so the analysis and seismic studies of thedynamic characteristics of the concrete gravity dam is a very important and meaningfultopics.In this paper, uses a concrete gravity dam as a research object;ABAQUS finite elementsoftware to build the dam model,to learn the mechanical properties of the concrete gravitydam under earthquakeunder the statics and seismic time-history analysis.First, analysis the dam model by using the method of static analysis to get the positionswhich are the most likelysite ofstress concentration and the maximumdisplacement;And thencreate the input model of seismic wave which be used to the time-history analysis, The inputparametersfor analysis are the time and the horizontal, vertical acceleration of the twodirections.We can get the results of the stress and the strain of different parts though theresponse timeof earthquake. Mainly analyze the positions which are possible occur stressconcentration,including the dam heel, the dam toe,the bending place of downstream face andthe dam crest. Pick out the weakest positions and obtain the earthquake responseregularpatterns of the dam by time-history analysis to the gravity dam, at the same time,analysis the different forms of energy in the earthquake response, including the kineticenergy, deformation energy and so on. The time-history analysis can describe the seismicresponse processing reality. The analysis results of the concrete gravity dam obtained can be used as the mechanical properties and seismic resistance of the dam, it can also be used toanalysis the mechanical properties of earthquake response and seismic resistance of the othergravity dams.
