In recent years, Civil Engineering accidents occurred frequently, these accidents hadbad influence on people’s production and life. If structural damage could be found timelyand reinforces the structure in time, the life-span of engineering structure will extend andthe lives and property will be ensured. Structural health monitoring is a kind ofnondestructive testing technology which develops rapidly in recent years. The technologyis mainly via the comparison of change of the structure modal parameters and engineeringstructure can be monitored. The location and level of the structural damage could berecognizing through combining the analysis of digital signal by damage identification softwares. And the information is the basis for the structural strengthening. Monitoring all theDOFs in the finite element model seems impossible because of restrictions of economiccondition. Optimization of sensor arrangement becomes a key problem in the structuralhealth monitoring. We can find that effective independence algorithm is much more suitable forengineering application, through applying a2D plane truss structure in this paper andadopting effective independence algorithm and damage sensitivity method in sensorarrangement respectively. The purpose of monitoring is to recognize the structural damage.More information can be acquired in the nodes of damaged elements according to St.Vansant’s principle, so consider allocating sensors around the damage area appropriately.By comparing the residual force vector and the flexibility of the plane truss, effectiveindependence algorithm and residual force vector method are applied together to arrangethe sensors for the national museum. The scheme also go for the general area, throughselecting a group of important elements, which ensures the damage could be identified andthe general area damage could be simulated, based on the internal force designed of thestructure.
