With the rapid growth in numbers of motor vehicles and oil consumption, which lead the threat of oil crisis and the pollution of environment to increase gradually. Therefore, people’s consciousness of energy-saving and protecting environmention are enhancing unceasingly. Natural gas have many fine traites for example, large storage capacity, low pollution, low energy consumption, low prices, high security and so on, it is considered to be the best choice for alternative fuel in the21st century, and in some cities, it has been widely used on buses and taxis.In this paper, based on analyzing natural gas fuel property, burning characteristics of natural gas and the characteristics of natural gas engines, combining the special operating condition of urban public transport vehicles, the performance of natural gas engine oil for public transport vehicles was determined. Aimed to the requirements of engine oil for energy-saving, environmental protection, saving and extend oil changing periods, etc. using the base oil which was produced by the hydrogenation craft to mix light polishing oil has satisfied the demand of the base oil the viscosity grades of15W-40. Contented the demand of performance of the natural gas engine oil for public transport vehicles, based on referred massive interrelated data,chose the appropriate compound-additives of natural gas engine oil and other functional additives, the sensitivity of base oil and additive,and the compatibility between the additives were studied by a large number of experiments. On this basis, entire formula scheme was designed by using orthogonal experimental design method, through the testing of evaluating indexes, test results was analyzed by using Variance analysis,and the optimization formulations of15W-40natural gas engine oil for public transport vehicles was finalized.Through the laboratory contrast experiment with the lubricating oil chosed as the contrast in performance targets,the result indicates that the developed oil is superior to the contrast oil on performances of abrasion., iscosity-temperature and detergencyIn order to verify the actual performance of the developed lubricating oil, the developed lubricating oil had been used in bench-test of natural gas engine manufacturers. The results show that the developed lubricating oil can meet the requests of nannei and xilian natural gas engine. On the basis of laboratory test and bench-test of natural gas engine manufacturers, actual vehicles driving test was adopted respectively in public transport vehicles equipped with different types of natural gas engines on different road conditions, actual operational performance of bus natural gas engine oil was inspected finely. The results show that the developed lubricating oil has good performance of viscosity-temperature, abrasion, detergent-dispersant, excellent high-temperature anti-oxidation and so on, and it can satisfy requests of natural gas engine lubricating oil for public transport vehicles. Finally, according to the result of driving test, considering the influence of various factors, determines the reasonable oil cycle is15000km.
