Characteristics of the engine lubricating oil will affect the engine and vehicle fuel consumption. It’s important to improve the efficiency of the engine and reduce the fuel consumption while guarantee or improve the engine output and performance under the circumstance of gradually increasing of national energy-saving emission reduction requirements. Simulation analysis of vehicle fuel consumption calculation and designed experiment method was used to study the assembly engine oil of a company’s mini-car. The different engine performance of the usage of the candidate oil and the initial installation 5W-30 oil was analyzed, and related parameters of the oils were determined by laboratory determination method. Then 5W-20 oil was chosen for the study, analysis of the impact of oil pressure and flow in the performance of the engine lubrication system, reflecting the different oils for engine performance. By the vehicle fuel consumption test, it was concluded that the candidate oil and 5W-20 oil can improve the output performance of engine, ensure the engine oil flow requirements, and reduce the fuel consumption of the vehicle. The research results of this paper are as follows:(1) Initial installation of the engine 5W-30 oil and candidate oil products were measured in laboratory, characteristic parameters of different oil products were compared to show the difference. 5W-20 oil which has the same viscosity with the candidate oil was chosen for the study. And the parameters of these oils were compared for further analysis. Performance of lubricating oil can simple evaluate from the density, viscosity and viscosity-temperature characteristics.(2) Established the simulation model of engine lubricating system by using Flowmaster V7 software. A calculated simulation was carried out for different oil properties. The effects of different characteristics of different oil for lubrication system performance were showed in the simulation results. The demand of different engine oils was calculated for the analysis. The basis for the selection of lubricating oil was provided from the calculated results.(3) Designed vehicle fuel consumption test, the chassis dynamometer test cycle to get the vehicle in working condition hundred kilometers, reflecting the different oils under the conditions of use, changes in one hundred kilometers of the engine fuel consumption. Finalized, the use of low viscosity, viscosity-temperature characteristics of a better standard and 5W-20 oil could bring some degree of decline to the engine fuel consumption.
