In recent years, International terrorist activities have become increasingly rampant,bomb attacks occur frequently, it is a serious threat to the safety of innocent poor people’slives. On the other hand, Drug trafficking is still rampant, drug manufacturing and drugtrafficking are more and more hidden, and the types of drugs are diversified, the druggradually penetrated into every corner of the society. So it is an extremely difficult andimportant task to combat terrorist attacks and drug-related crimes.Ion mobility spectrometry (Ion Mobility Spectrometry, IMS,) is gaseous phaseseparation and detection technology appeared in the early1970s, the. It is based on thetime difference of the ion drift characteristics to distinguish the different ion. IMS devicehas many features such as simple structure, high sensitivity etc. so this technology iswidely used in the rapid trace detection of drugs and explosives. The IMS equipment canonly do a single test on drugs or explosives currently, that can’t meet the needs of themodern anti-drug and anti-terrorism war.This paper describes the basic theory of the IMS, the structure of each system, andintroduces the other technology of detecting the positive and negative ions in one detectioncycle. The emphase of the paper is introducing the design of the two-channel ion mobilitytube’s chief parts, finally, we test sample library, testing limits and the mixture of drugsand explosives of the two-channel ion mobility tube which is equipped with IMS testplatform. The results showed that the mixture of drugs and explosives could be detected bytwo-channel ion mobility tube in no performance loss.
