In the era of rapid development of science and technology,in the field of cutting-edgetechnologies areas such as precision optical engineering, micro-electromechanical systems,aerospace technology,there is an increasingly demand for a high-performance precision lineardriving technology. This thesis presents a kind of miniature giant magnetostrictive inchworm linearmotor which is designed according to the demand for today’s society, It is a new type of motorusing smart materials based on the inchworm movement principles. The giant magnetostrictivematerial (GMM) has the advantages of high strain, output force, resolution, quick response andenergy density, which shows broad application prospects. In this thesis, we design the giantmagnetostrictive inchworm linear motor, and we systematically study the characteristic of GMAand structure of linear motor and its related characteristic based on the underlying theory,andgiant magnetostrictive actuators (GMA) work as a core unit.The giant magnetostriction and the basic characters of the magnetostrictive material areintroduced in this paper, also including the type, development and application field of theinchworm linear motor.Using the giant material character as background, the thesis designs the core unit of thegiant magnetostrictive inchworm linear motor, that is, giant magnetostrictive actuator, includingthe choose of the GMM rod, design of the coil, magnetic circuit structure, analysis of themagnetic field, preloading structure and etc. The structure of the giant magnetostrictiveinchworm linear motor is presented and mathematical model of the output displacement isdeduced on the basis of giant magnetostrictive material. In the paper, we introduce laboratoryequipments and principles and experimental platform is set up, we analysis and do experimentson the displacement characteristics of the motor, including the static displacement characteristicsand the dynamic displacement characteristics, we collect the experimental data with the image,and process the experimental data with the origin data software.The thesis introduces the type offlexible hinge, analyzes rotational stiffness of the round flexible hinge, and designs themicro-displacement amplifying mechanism, three-dimensional schematic. Using the finite modelanalysis method analyzes the static force and the dynamic force of the mechanism.At last, main work of the thesis is summarized and the further researches are discussed.
