Turbocharging is a main way to improve internal combustion engine’s(ICE)fuel efficiency and reduce CO2consumption through utilizing exhaustgas energy and enhance engine’s thermal efficiency. Traditional turbinedesign and matching between turbocharger and engine were based on steadyflow condition at turbine entry; however there is pulsating flow condition. Itleads to insufficient pressure on low speed condition and overtops on highspeed condition and can’t satisfy transient matching needs.Concerning the problem above, a one-dimensional unsteady through-flowmodel of turbocharger turbine was developed based on steady through-flowmodel of turbocharger turbine according to the wave action andfilling-and-emptying effect that pulsating pressure wave generates in turbinevolute. The model can predict successfully flow characteristics and transientpower of turbine on different frequent pulsating waves,so it would be appliedon the initial stage of turbine design and replace zero-dimensional turbinemap model to improve ICE simulating platform. According to the geometricparameter of a turbine,the model can predict the performance of this turbinesoon and satisfy transient matching needs on actual condition.Based on turbine steady performance test rig, a turbine transientperformance test rig was developed through arranging dynamic sensors atturbine entry and compressor end individually; Analyzed the method toacquire transient performance parameters. Investigated transient flowcharacteristics and power of turbo GT2052on the test rig to verify accuracy ofthe one-dimensional pulse through-flow model.Perfect consistency is obtained between simulation results acquired by theone-dimensional pulse through-flow model and experiment data, and mean erroris below3%. It demonstrates that the one-dimensional pulse through-flow model of turbocharger turbine is validated.
