With the implementation of the12th Five-Year Plan in our country, the westerndevelopment strategy is promoted with the growing number of the western region’sinfrastructure. With the technology of construction projects is promoted a lot in recent years,the bridge structure gradually develop toward soft and long, making the structure moresensitive to the role of the wind, and wind characteristics is the basis of the structure resistingwind. Xinjiang is a windy area in China, because of its unique geographical environment andgeomorphological features, resulting in the diversity of wind direction and wind speeddistribution, the study of the wind parameters in the area has an important reference value onwind-resistant design on engineering.The study methods on wind characteristics are field observations, wind tunnel tests andnumerical simulation, numerical simulation saves time and money, have more flexibility, notaffected by the model scale, can do full-scale simulation and the condition is easy to becontrolled, which is built on the basis of computational fluid dynamics theory and analyzedby the fluid calculation software.This project is a subproject of the National Natural Science Foundation Project “Inlandstrong winds and the effect of it on field measurement which contains simulation”, we usenumerical simulation method to study three typical terrain wind parameters of Xinjiang. Themain work of this paper is as follows: Using the software FLUENT and GAMBIT to buildthree-dimensional geometric model of the towers surrounding terrain. Meshing anddetermining the calculated watershed, selecting the appropriate boundary conditions andcontrol parameters, determining the calculation condition of the load and the arrangement ofthe spots. Showing the calculating results of the velocity profile and turbulence intensity,comparing the wind parameters results of the numerical simulation and wind tunnel test.Verifying the feasibility of the numerical simulation on the wind parameters of such terrain.And researching the affect of the model scale on the wind parameters, the results of whichshow that the affect of the model scale is different for different terrain.
