The expressway is a main traffic artery connecting the large and medium cities in ourcountry, which plays a very important role in the development of the national economy. Theexpressway construction in China has made outstanding achievements since the reform andopening. In the past few decades, total mileage of highway opened to traffic is just next to theUnited States, the second longest in the world. Although the total mileage of highway openedto traffic increases continuously, it still can not meet the needs of rapid economicdevelopment.With the influx of large traffic flow, the traffic congestion and blockage oftenappear on the highway, so that traffic efficiency and safety reduce greatly. Whether theexpressway is running in good operation state, not only related to people’s daily travel, butalso related to long-term economic development. Domestic and foreign studies have shownthat the establishment of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is an effective approachto solve smooth and safety issues in highway traffic.Based upon research of domestic and international traffic flow guidance system, thisthesis designed the general framework of the highway traffic flow guidance system, which iscombined with the specific circumstances of the highway traffic conditions in our country,and studied some key issues.In this paper, the statistical distribution of the vehicles dispatching model is studied,hypothesis test and parameter estimation on the statistical distribution of the vehicles arrival ismade, the collected data is used to verify and provide a theoretical basis for the CPNsimulation modeling of traffic flow. The construction of the road network topology is studied,the theories of CPN external communication have been carefully analyzed, and acommunication mechanism is established between C#and the CPN model. After mostfrequently used shortest path algorithm in Dynamic Traffic Flow Guidance System isintroduced and a detailed analysis of the traditional Dijkstra algorithms is made, the thesisimproved the search area and weight dynamic adjustment of the traditional Dijkstraalgorithms, then raised efficiency and practical significance of the algorithm. On the basis ofthe above studies, we developed a GIS-based expressway traffic flow guidance system, whichhas realized the functions of information queries, the best route guidance and real-time trafficsimulation. The GIS-based expressway traffic flow guidance system can lead the roadsresources of the highway to be more efficient and traffic running system to achieve globaloptimization.
