In the pursuit of economic growth and material enriched simultaneously, our ecological environment is under huge pressure and destruction. Nowadays human beings are suffering from increasingly serious ecological environment pollution and the energy crisis, in order to build a harmonious society, all over the world have actively begun to looking for clean renewable energy and effective energy-saving solutions.Since the industrial revolution, design has not only brought people high quality modern life, but also accelerated the resource and energy consumption, causing many environmental problems. Designers have realized that ecological concept penetration is the only way to address the energy waste problems of product design and manufacturing industry, so as to achieve the long term objective of sustainable development. Product life cycle is accompanied with generation and loss of energy, almost70%energy consumption of a product is determined in the product design stage. This paper will examine specifically on the following subjects:How does design construct ecological civilization and harmonious society, and how does it improve harmonious development between human being and the environment; Design principles and methods that used to minimize energy consumption throughout the life cycle of products to meet environment objectives; Ecological energy-saving design that how to carry on the evaluation and decision-making.According to the research of ecological culture and the analysis of current domestic and foreign energy-saving design, the deficiency and defects of current energy-saving design could easily be addressed. We face the survival of the ecological environment is more and more profound damage, combined with the practical situation of the product design process, establish the ecological concept based on energy saving products design method of the research purpose and meaning. This paper is the specific work completed as follows:(1) This paper indicates the ecological energy-saving design principles and methods that throughout the product life cycle hence summarize the ecological energy-saving design process. The traditional energy-saving design tend to focus on the energy-saving on certain stages, but the products’whole life cycle, it leads to the energy-saving is not so efficient as expected. Therefore, in order to promote ecological culture, protect the ecological environment and construct an ecological society, design wisdom is a preferable solution to maximize the energy-saving during the whole life cycle of a product.(2) This paper set up the ecological energy-saving design evaluation system for the design results providing decision-making method. Simple evaluation process does not reflect the energy-saving capability of a product effectively. In the essay, fuzzy hierarchy evaluation method and expert scouring method are combined, through the scientific calculations qualitatively and quantitatively, reflecting the energy-saving capability of products objectively, hence offering decision-making reference for designers.(3) In the paper, the ecological energy-saving design principles, methods and evaluation processes have been validated through applying them to the practical example. Using roadway lighting equipment as an example, in addition to the appearance modeling design, ecological energy-saving design policy of life cycle should be considered as well, so as to inspect the feasibility of the proposed principles and methods.The paper summarized a set of ecological energy-saving design principles, methods and evaluation processes, and can be used as a guide for manufacturing enterprise for energy-saving product development, to produce more eco-environmental energy-saving products not only for the profit of enterprise, but also the improvement of sustainable development for the whole world and the construction of ecological civilization.
