There is a great deal of energy waste in the fused magnesia production process which is a high energy consuming industry. It is a great potential of energy conservation especially the theutilization of waste heat in production process. Tackeling the problem of waste heat recovery at its root well is an important and strategic measure to improve China’s energy structure, to develop the magnesium industry and to realize the policy which the nation is advocating for energy conservation and emission.This subject comes from the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863program). which is the fourth junior issue-The key technology and equipments for the recovery of waste heat in the magnesite smelting process" whose sub-project is theme project of resource environment technology field-"Energy conservation and emission reduction technology and equipments of the efficient production of fused magnesia using low grade magnesite"Aimed at the difficult technical problems proposed in waste heat recovery of fused magnesia process, based on the system energy saving and heat balance theory, a new waste heat recovery technology called mangnesium melting lump was put forward, heat balance calculation for energy cycle was accomplished, and there is a comparative analysis of the old and the new technology.In this issue, we come up with a key equipment called Heat Recovery Kiln in the new waste heat recovery technology of magnesium melting lump, and put award corresponding structure.Higher temperature wind is acquired by using both intermittent air control mode and continuous air control mode. The application of ferry car makes the way which some of the magnesium melting lumps enter into the heat recovery kiln more standardized and reasonable. The seal way between Kiln car and kiln body is sand seal, meanwhile the one between Kiln cars is tortuous seal. In this way we make the recovery of waste heat from the kiln heat loss fall to the minimum.Before the magnesium melting lump is broken, forced-air cooling and heat recovery process in the heat recovery kiln are numerically simulated and analysed. Air velocity distribution is get when drum wind position is different.The setting of forced draft process is guided. The relationship between the different amount of heat recovery and forced draft speeds and the reasonable wind offered system are obtained. Temperature field in the heat recovery kiln is analysed, and there are some theoretical guidance for the design of heat recovery kiln according to the analysis results.The analysis shows that the main difficulties of magnesium melting lump waste heat recovery are solved basically. The research for the heat recovery kiln which is the actual equipment in the process will provide important theoretical basis for the next industrial experiment and the new technology for the whole fused magnesia system energy saving.
