With the rapid development of power electronics, the capability of utilizing electricity and the performances of electric network have been greatly improved. But due to wide applications of the rectifiers, various harmonic waves are produced. They pollute the electric network seriously and reduce the efficiency of production, transmission and utilization of electricity. Recently, the energry shortage has become the bottle neck of developing national economy. Usually, reactive compensation, filters for active and reactive were used to improved power system in order to control harmonic and improve power factor of power system. But the power factor correction technique is research because it is an effective method to control harmonic and improve power factor by recent years.View of the importance of the power factor correction for the energy and the quality of power supply, the recent power factor correction technologies were widely disscused in this thesis, through the main circuit topology and control method of comparing the advantages and disadvantages, and pay the attention to the most common and effective Boost-type PFC circuit from the aspects of the circuit’s structure and operating principle,and use it’s principle as the basis for the MATLAB simulation. Meanwhile, the power factor correction control technology were separated into traditional control technology and new control technology to make comparison of advantages and disadvantages between several structures.The step-Boost circuit was chosen as the main circuit topology of the power correction device, and IR1150controller which based on one-cycle control are selected, a500W power factor correction is designed and elements of main and control circuit were accounted after topologies of main circuit and control metheods were compared, meanwhile, the detail description of the structure of the IR1150and working principle were introduced.At the same time, the PFC device is used in the frequency and transformer calibration circuit access device for simulation at the condition of given the different voltage points. The power factor correction of circuit is improved obviously and satisfied design require after join the power factor correction. This circuit’s control method is simple, reliable, and meets the design requirements, and the total harmonic distortion for current is controlled in a band, so the harmonic for voltage and current is reduced.
