From the perspective of energy conservation and environment protection, andaiming to the poor lubricity of water-based emulsion, four types of lubricating additivesincluding chlorine, phosphorus, sulfur and ester family were researched their lubricityeffects on water-based emulsion by using MS-800A four-ball friction wear tester,according to GB/T12583-1998《standard test method for measurement of extremepressure properties of lubricating fluids》(four-ball method). Then the microscopicanalysis was done on the worn surface by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) andEnergy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS).These studies will provide a solid experimentalbasis for the development and application of the water-based lubricant.Firstly, the lubricity of seventeen kinds of additives used separately was evaluated.It was found that different kinds and content of additives had resulted in different maxnon-seizure load of emulsion. And fatty acid chlorides DA8527had the bestresponsiveness in water-based emulsion; the PBvalue was883N at concentration of8%.Secondly, based on the research of single additives, four kinds of lubricatingadditives which had better lubricity performance were selected, including fatty acidchlorides DA8527, polysulfide RC2540, phosphate E9600and polyester GY25. And theeffect of three compound systems on the lubricity of emulsion was researched, whichwere DA8527and RC2540, E9600and RC2540, GY25and RC2540. And the resultsshowed that DA8527and RC2540were the best compound system, and the emulsioncould reach the highest PBvalue, when the concentration of DA8527and RC2540wereboth5%.Then, based on the results above, the formula of the water-based emulsion withbest lubricity was determined. Comparing the lubricity of homemade water-basedlubricant with the import sample by drilling test, the surface of workpiece was betterand had less wear stripe and breaking point, and the wear of tool was slight, when usingthe homemade sample.At last, fatty acid chlorides DA8527is a better lubricating additive which can beused in water-based emulsion. After analyzing on the lubricant mechanism, it showed that the protective film made by DA8527on the metal surface was a kind of alternatefilm that changed between metal soap film and ferric chloride film. It was a continuouslubricating process, and had a better lubrication effect.
