Study On Rockery Of Lion Forest Garden In Suzhou

The Lion Forest Garden in SuZhou city is famous for its rockery groups and it doesn’t only own the considerable rockery groups, but also contains the special art of heaping rockery which is the precious historical data and is worth researching.On the heaping rockery in the Lion Forest Garden, the thesis includes three studies. The first study is about the function and historical changes of the Lion Forest Garden. With proving the past records by primary data and combining with its historical context, the thesis further probes into the garden layout and the distribution of rockery groups. The second study is about the method of heaping rockery in the Lion Forest Garden. On the construction method and the technique of heaping rockery, the thesis finds the characteristics and charm of heaping rockery, and deduces the classical law and the humanistic spirit of ancient heaping rockery.(It is a research branch to study about the Zen realm of the Lion Forest Garden which is known as the Zen Garden.) The third study is to compare the technique of heaping rockery of the Lion Forest Garden with other gardens, to find the particularity and problem on the heaping rockery in the Lion Forest Garden and to present the reference and inspiration for construction of Modern Landscape Architecture.It is important to probe into the case study on the Lion Forest Garden and the method of stone piling, which will improve the theoretical system of Chinese classical garden, rehabilitate the ancient rockery and also guide the practice of the present-day garden construction.
