Using passive control device for vibration suppression is an efficiency, robust, convenient maintenance and low cost countermeasure which widely applied in mechanical engineering and civil engineering. The nonlinear energy sink absorber has a character that can absorb vibration in wide board frequency region, which can be used for high-rise structure and cable suffering wind or earthquake excitation. This paper studied on suppression of cantilever beam and cable structure one-dimensional vibration via nonlinear energy sink absorber.Vibration suppression of high-rise structure attached an NES is analyzed. Partial differential equation of beam-NES system motion had established, analytic solution of nonlinear normal mode had obtained, which revealed the principal of vibration suppression via NES. Based on Finite element method, beam-NES discrete dynamic equation had established, and NES parametric analysis had studied. Comparing to TMD device, NES has better vibration suppression efficiency. Result shows the NES absorber has optimal parameters that mitigated structure vibration visibly. The optimal value of NES absorber cubic stiffness is weakly correlated with its mass and its fixed position on main structure, and as the damp coefficient increased, optimal cubic stiffness value gets larger. And system vibration suppression would not change, if NES cubic stiffness and NES damp coefficient varied slightly from its optimal values, which indicate NES absorber has good ability of robustness. And emprical formula of NES absorber cubic stiffness optimal value provided, which has practical significance in engineering application.Vibration suppression of cable structure attached an NES is analyzed.
