Microgrid which fundamentally make up of distributed energy resources can effectively improve the reliability of electric power system and the needs of electric users, reinforcing the volume of traditional power net-work. Its buidup can integrate multiple types of distributed generation, and weaken the power flutuation caused by large quantity of DGs accessing to power grid. To stabilize the power quality and reduce cost of operation of the system, microgrid system needs energy management platform like traditional network’ EMS in order to optimize the flow of microgrid output in different operating states. Therefore, the design of microgrid and its energy management platform have become a burning problem.As the foundation of microgrid, there are a wide range of DGs in the world. Each of them have no same principle and operating behavior. Because of their different behaviors, DGs’accessing will lead some impacts on DG themselves and the distributed power network in PCC. So in the paper, DGs are separated from many parts according to their behaviors firstly. And then, the theories of them and the operation control will be introduced. A brief analysis of DGs’effects impacted on electric power systems will display.Finally, to show the microgrid energy management platform, the paper introduce its structure, function and communication topology. Through an example of small local microgrid system, a general design steps can be concluded.
